What was your initial reason for considering the PAE procedure, and how did you feel about the decision to undergo it?
My primary care doctor suggested I consider PAE. I had been using Flomax, Super Beta Prostate as a means of controlling BPH which was at the moderate level (getting up 1-2 times a night). I didn’t consider the symptoms to be a big problem but they were frustrating; especially when traveling. Not being able to fully empty the bladder was frustrating when playing golf and any outdoor activities as I was always looking for a restroom.
How did you feel about the care and professionalism of Dr. Nutting and the staff during your consultation and procedure?
I’m not a big consumer of heath care but when I do go to different offices, I’m often dismayed. Dr. Nuttings office is the standard every doctor and healthcare provider should strive for. It is literally the nicest, warmest and caring office I’ve ever been in. From the very first encounter with Emily at the front desk to Dr. Nutting himself, it is a concierge experience. Emily reached out and made the scheduling work around my schedule and Dr. Nutting was very warm and friendly. After the procedure, his nurses were the best. Literally the best I’ve ever encountered. It is a true first class operation.
Can you describe the recovery process after the procedure? What challenges did you face, if any, and how long did it take to feel fully recovered?
Dr. Nutting was very upfront about what I should experience post-procedure. He told me I most probably wouldn’t experience much if anything in recovery but may experience slight discomfort for the first two days. I didn’t have any challenges. Absolutely none. No pain and certainly no discomfort. I didn’t work out or do anything overly physical but just went about normal daily activities. I still took flomax until he called me a week after and he suggested I try stopping. Everyone in that office is top tier professional.
How has your quality of life changed since undergoing the PAE procedure? Have you noticed any improvements in your symptoms?
Literally a life changing event. I don’t even think about it. Previously, I’d cut my liquid intake around 6pm and stay slightly dehydrated before bed. I had to ensure I had packed my supplements and Flomax before I traveled. Had to ensure I had extras in case I was delayed or stayed a few extra days. I’m just “normal”. My “Normalness” was noticed on a recent week of fishing with colleagues on a week long fishing trip. They were up throughout the night and complaining. Someone mentioned I never got up during the night. I sleep much better and deeper sleep. I feel more rested when I wake up.
What would you say to other men considering PAE as an option for their prostate health?
This is a life changing procedure. Super easy for the patient and a quick (if any) recovery. I’ve told all of my friends that if they have any issues at all, PAE is exactly what they need. Managing life as one gets older is often a matter of making compromises and living with them. PAE is the one procedure that eliminates the biggest inconvenience for any mature man. It just works and no side effects.

What was your initial reason for considering the PAE procedure, and how did you feel about the decision to undergo it?
I did extensive research on YouTube, my source of truth, regarding the various procedures available for BPH (with inability to urinate). The PAE procedure was regarded as the least invasive, so I figured what do I have to lose? If PAE didn’t work, I could always elect a more invasive procedure thereafter. If it did work,I would be less susceptible to undesirable side effects.
How did you feel about the care and professionalism of Dr. Nutting and the staff during your consultation and procedure?
It was clear from my research that Dr. Nutting is the guru of PAE. And to my luck, he practices in the Denver area where I live! He was able to see me right away, and when it was determined that I was a good candidate we scheduled the procedure for shortly thereafter. His support staff, receptionist, and nurses were all outstanding. On a scale of 1 to 10 Image Guided Therapy ranks an 11.
Can you describe the recovery process after the procedure? What challenges did you face, if any, and how long did it take to feel fully recovered?
I was on a catheter when I went to see Dr. Nutting, so I needed to stay on one for two weeks after the procedure. The day I passed the void trial was one of the happiest of my life. It took me 4 to 6 months to feel fully recovered. I have been saying a short prayer of gratitude each time I urinate since then.
How has your quality of life changed since undergoing the PAE procedure? Have you noticed any improvements in your symptoms?
Compared to life with a catheter, my quality of life has improved 100%. The ability to urinate on my own without a catheter is priceless. My flow is strong and I no longer get up to pee in the middle of the night. My bladder is recovering from being overly extended as well. And, my PSA level has lowered significantly.
